dB Control Introduces Industry’s First High-Power Ka-Band TWT Amplifier
Hub-Mount Model dB-3709 Designed For Military Ship-Board and Ground-Based Radar Applications Provides 1kW Peak Power Over 34.5-35.5GHz Frequency Range
[BUSINESS WIRE] — Fremont, Calif. — dB Control, designer and manufacturer of high-power microwave amplifiers and transmitters for radar, Electronic Counter Measures (ECM) and communications applications, is introducing the industry’s first high-power Ka-Band traveling wave tube (TWT) amplifier to provide one kilowatt (1kW) peak power (800W minimum) over a 34.5-35.5GHz frequency range with a six percent maximum (6% max.) duty cycle. The Model dB-3709 is designed to be mounted on a shipboard or groundbased antennae pedestal or hub where it will provide the reliable, low phase noise and high power required for high-resolution radar applications.
“High-resolution radar systems require a TWT amplifier that provides high amplitude, phase stability and high spectral purity of the amplified RF output pulse,” said Meppalli Shandas, VP of marketing for dB Control. “The Model dB-3709K is the first Ka-Band TWT amplifier to meet those exacting performance requirements and guarantee reliable operation in harsh environments.“
The dB-3709K TWT Amplifier features 60dB minimum gain, input/output VSWR of 2:1/, 0.3-5 μsec pulse width and 100kHz maximum pulse repetition frequency. The dB-3709K’s environmentally sealed enclosure, compact size (14” H x 14” W x 26” L), 85-pound weight, and ruggedized construction with an internal fan/forced air cooling system enable the amplifier to be hub- or pedestal mounted in environments with an ambient temperature of 10°F to 100°F and up to 100% humidity at altitudes of up to 10,000 feet.
About dB Control
dB Control, based in Fremont, California, designs and manufactures high-power microwave amplifiers, transmitters, high-voltage power supplies and modulators for radar, Electronic Counter Measures (ECM), communication and test and measurement applications. Established in 1990, the company’s high-power amplifiers use either solid state or vacuum electronics devices covering the 500 MHz to 40 GHz frequency range.
The modularity of its designs enables dB Control to quickly configure custom amplifiers to meet specific needs and produce custom products for a number different platforms ranging from ground-based to high-altitude military manned and unmanned aircraft. All design and manufacturing activities are carried out in a modern 22,500-square-foot facility.
The company’s high-voltage laboratory is equipped for manufacturing and testing transformers, inductors and integrated assemblies up to 100 kV, with RF and microwave test instruments available for complete product characterization, and with environmental test capability for temperature, altitude, vibration and shock.
