First High-Power Ka-Band TWTA

dB Control Introduces Industry’s First High-Power Ka-Band TWT Amplifier

Fremont, Calif. – dB Control, designer and manufacturer of high-power microwave amplifiers and transmitters for radar, Electronic Counter Measures (ECM) and communications applications, is introducing the industry’s first high-power Ka-Band traveling wave tube (TWT) amplifier to provide one kilowatt (1kW) peak power (800W minimum) over a 34.5-35.5GHz frequency range with a six percent maximum (6% max.) duty cycle. The Model dB-3709 is designed to be mounted on a shipboard or groundbased antennae pedestal or hub where it will provide the reliable, low phase noise and high power required for high-resolution radar applications.

“High-resolution radar systems require a TWT amplifier that provides high amplitude, phase stability and high spectral purity of the amplified RF output pulse,” said Meppalli Shandas, VP of marketing for dB Control. “The Model dB-3709K is the first Ka-Band TWT amplifier to meet those exacting performance requirements and guarantee reliable operation in harsh environments.”

The dB-3709K TWT Amplifier features 60dB minimum gain, input/output VSWR of 2:1/, 0.3-5 Ојsec pulse width and 100kHz maximum pulse repetition frequency. The dB-3709K’s environmentally sealed enclosure, compact size (14″ H x 14″ W x 26″ L), 85-pound weight, and ruggedized construction with an internal fan/forced air cooling system enable the amplifier to be hub- or pedestal mounted in environments with an ambient temperature of 10°F to 100°F and up to 100% humidity at altitudes of up to 10,000 feet.
