Military TWTAs for Commercial Market

dB Control Introduces Military TWT Amplifiers to Commercial Market Model dB-3710C TWT Amplifiers Are Integrated with Intermap Proprietary Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar Technology to Collect 3D Radar Mapping Data

Fremont, Calif .-dB Control, an established manufacturer of reliable, high-power microwave amplifiers, radar transmitters and power supplies, announced that its customized Traveling Wave Tube (TWT) amplifiers, developed and tested in mission-critical military Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) applications, are now available to the commercial market. Multiple commercial dB-3710C TWT amplifiers were recently integrated by Intermap„ў Technologies, a preeminent digital mapping company, to provide reliable power for Intermap’s proprietary Interferometric SAR (IFSAR) high-resolution airborne radar mapping technology. IFSAR is used to produce digital elevation models, orthorectified radar images, and numerous other elevation and data products.

“dB Control’s reliable TWT amplifiers enable Intermap to collect high-quality, low-cost 3D-radar mapping data with a higher level of reliability over our previous power sources, while meeting our stringent accuracy specifications,” said Mark Frank, Intermap’s vice president of acquisition operations & engineering.

The rack-mounted dB-3710C is an X-band, 8 kW TWT amplifier with a five-percent duty cycle (pulse). The units can be built quickly and economically for a wide range of commercial applications. dB Control, for instance, recently delivered multiple TWT amplifiers to India where they are being integrated with systems producing high-resolution SAR images, often under adverse weather conditions and through foliage, to help agencies manage disasters such as earthquakes and forest fires.

“The excellent RF spectral quality of our TWT amplifiers enable such capabilities. We are honored that well-respected global mapping companies such as Intermap have chosen to integrate our products.” said dB Control Vice President of Technology and Business Development Meppalli Shandas.

Shandas added that the U.S. military has relied on dB Control to provide reliable high power TWT amplifiers for SAR applications for 15 years. “Making this technology available to the commercial market will unleash a wealth of new applications,” he said.
